History shows that Gibraltar has been a major shipping hub dating back to Roman and Phoenician times.

However, recent history has shown Gibraltar has been primarily home to Ship Agents and Bunker Suppliers making the place, the largest bunkering port in the Med. Bunker’s supplied in 2009 surpassed 4.5 Million tonnes. Additionally, shipowners continue to call at Gibraltar for a wider range of services and cruise ship passengers continue to increase.

Consequently, Astralship Corp Ltd, was founded in June 2009, and began its operations here in Gibraltar on the 1st March 2010, with the intention to open up the first ship-brokering house here on the Rock, offering both local and international clients, a new service whilst complementing the existing services within the maritime industry with our own Port Agency Licence.

Despite the difficulties experienced within the financial markets of 2008 and 2009, which also had an adverse effect on the shipping markets, these markets began to show the first signs of recovery earlier this year and Astralship chose to begin its full operation.

Furthermore, the company has been able to introduce Ship Repair’s and New Building on Site Inspectorate to the list of professional services we are able to provide to our clients.

The different sectors within the maritime industry require a thorough understanding of the shipping markets, how they fluctuate and how they are affected by the prevailing trading trends. Our job is to minimise these affects on our clients by offering them the respective professional advice.
Additionally, Astralship provides their clients and lending institutions with ship valuations.
